About Dan Gluibizzi
Dan Gluibizzi is a collector and organizer of images posted online. From this gathered content he makes watercolors of digitally altered and recontextualized compositions. His starting point is a variety of crowd–sourced sites, which offer a vibrant tapestry of contemporary hieroglyphics ripe for interpretation. Now, more than ever, a cornucopia of raw, human–made material can be culled for the creation of visual poetry—and all directly at our fingertips. Gluibizzi’s analogue rendering of sexual, nude, or semi–nude digital images employ line and subtle washes to transform the mundane into the charmingly erotic. For many of these images it will be the first and only time, except their origins in the real world, that they will exist outside the digital realm, lending a uniqueness to that which is replicated. Once the images are on paper, they begin their own real–world life, a second life. Online exhibitionists and digital liaisons now take on physical, two–dimensional form. Dan Gluibizzi lives and works in Portland, OR. Exhibitions include CULT, Aimee Friberg Exhibitions, San Francisco; FMLY, Texas Contemporary, Houston; Kopeikin Gallery, Los Angeles; Ampersand Gallery, Portland, OR; Nudashank, Baltimore; Postmasters, New York; and Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, Berlin. Gluibizzi’s work has been featured in The New York Times, Juxtapoz Magazine, Hello Mr. and Erik Spiekermann’s magazine, P98a Paper, Berlin. Dan Gluibizzi received his BFA from Kutztown University, PA (1994) and an MFA from University of Cincinnati, OH (1997).
